From the Press Release: "WASHINGTON – The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that U.S. Army Air Forces Pvt. 1st Class Bernard J. Calvi, 23, of North Adams, Massachusetts, who was captured and died as a prisoner of war during World War II, was accounted for September 16, 2024." "To identify Calvi’s remains, scientists from DPAA used dental and anthropological analysis, as well as circumstantial evidence. Additionally, scientists from the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and Y-chromosome DNA (Y-STR) analysis." Learn more.
